Developer Reel
Right: A developer reel showcasing the minigames I worked on for Sugar Slay: Snek Frenzy and Medicinal Memory

Sugar Slay
Team: Grace MacIntyre, Pika Macchi, Mollie Johnson, Carl Kho, Luca Kiami, Benjamin Rush
Role: Programmer
Platform: PC, though MVP was developed with mobile platforms in mind
Date: Summer 2023
During the summer of 2023, I was given the opportunity to participate in an internship at Northeastern University's ReGame-XR program. I was put on the Sugar Slay team as a game programmer. Sugar Slay aimed to gamify the management of diabetes for young adults, from managing blood sugar to alerting the user to take their insulin. Over the course of the summer, our team of 6 people of varying experience in game development had regular meetings with a client to ensure the MVP we developed met their specifications. I was responsible for developing some of the minigames in the demo, including the Snek Frenzy game and the Medicinal Memory minigame.

During development, my team encountered two challenges: partway through, our artist left our team. Thankfully we got another artist, but we had a lot of assets that needed to be finished that the previous artist didn't get to.

Another prominent challenge was working with our client. We worked with them to meet their requirements that seemed to clash more often than not, but halfway through we switched clients who had requirements that better aligned with our MVP.
